Sustentabilidade
Better than staying in a nice place is knowing that behind your stay there is a commitment to people and the environment.
We offer experiences in paradise and we know how essential and urgent it is to take measures beyond sustainability, since we are living in a critical climate scenario. The environmental impact of human activities requires that we all pay more attention and take actions aimed at regenerating our planet.
Aware of our local and global role, we are committed to socio-environmental actions based on the UN Sustainability Goals (ODs) to promote socio-environmental awareness among guests and the local community, in addition to always working towards the goal of having the maximum positive impact on our island.
Learn about the main sustainable actions adopted by us, which make your stay a unique experience at Hostel da Vila Ilhabela and Albatroz Hostel da Vila between Paraty and Ilha Grande:
Biodigester and care for the sea at Albatroz Hostel da Vila
We have an organic material digester that receives water, urine and feces from toilet flushes. This digester fragments the organic mass and facilitates the work of aerobic bacteria that degrade the material. The organic mass, once fragmented, is retained, together with the bacteria in a multi-layer filter element, where it is degraded.
The final effluent, which manages to pass through the last layers, is already practically free of organic matter when it is finally discarded.
Solar Energy
Although no energy source, even renewable, is entirely free of environmental impacts, solar energy has one of the lowest of all available.
At Hostel and Albatroz we have solar panels to guarantee the generation of clean energy and to make the most of a beautiful sunny day in every possible way!
Selective Collection
We believe that the circular economy is the path to a more sustainable society and that is why we prioritize reuse in our daily lives and in the construction of unique furniture and decorative objects that you will find in our spaces. When reuse is not possible, we carry out selective collection for recycling at local recycling points.
Composting at Hostel da Vila
The transformative process of composting, which transforms organic waste into natural fertilizer, reduces the amount of waste. We compost all the food from our Floresta bar and also from our shared kitchen in a thermophilic composter, producing compost that we use to take care of our large green area.
Local products
Consuming from small businesses promotes local development in addition to contributing to the environment and the artisanal production chain. We first opt ??for local producers and services and offer our breakfast and Floresta food, produced in our kitchen using ingredients from nearby and known sources. At Albatroz, we rely on the freshest food available that day from the hands of the community's fishermen and seasonal fruits that are abundant in the Atlantic Forest.
Bifiltered Water
The approximate decomposition time for a disposable cup is between 250 and 400 years, while its useful life is only 13 seconds. To avoid producing disposable items, we offer free filtered water available in our shared kitchen and in the lounge of our Floresta bar at the Hostel da Vila, and unlimited water available at Albatroz.
Mobility in Ilhabela
Bicycling is one of the most widely used means of transportation in Ilhabela, which has an 8km bike path along the seafront. In addition to providing numerous health benefits, cycling is ecological, does not pollute the environment, and offers the best cost-benefit ratio when compared to other means of transportation. We have bikes available for rent so you can explore the island at your own pace!
